Matt and his Co-op colleagues, Sam, Kurt and Charllotte from Brecon, took on the Taff Trail on Tuesday 28 July, riding 56 miles from Brecon to Cardiff.
Matt is a committed fundraiser who supports a different charity annually. Matt said:
I chose to support Shelter Cymru this year because one of my friends was going through a difficult time with his landlord and was on the verge of being homeless. He had nowhere to turn, but then he found Shelter Cymru. Shelter Cymru gave him the support he so desperately needed and helped him find a better place to live.
Shelter Cymru hold a weekly surgery in Brecon on Monday afternoons 1.30 – 3.30pm, where expert advisers are on hand to offer advice and support for anyone with a housing problem. If like Matts friend you need help contact our housing advice helpline on 0345 075 5005, no one need face homelessness alone.
The bike ride was a success and went really well although was very challenging and there were a few minor problems along the way with punchers and brakes but it was worth it. I’m extremely grateful to Shelter Cymru for the support they gave to my friend, for being there when he needed them most. I hope I can raise lots of money to support them with their work during my year of fundraising.
Matt has already raised over £500 through his bike ride and collecting tins in the Co-op.
If like Matt you are a keen cyclist, Shelter Cymru will once again be holding its Castles & Cathedrals sportive on Sunday 11th October with the opportunity to ride the 92 miles from Cardiff to Brecon and back or starting at Brecon and completing the shorter route.
