Siân’s Story

Siân was 19 years old and heavily pregnant, living in temporary accommodation whilst waiting for a permanent home for her and her unborn child. Before the baby arrived, Siân suffered a devastating blow when her Mother was diagnosed with a terminal illness. As the months passed and the illness progressed, Siân spent her days travelling back and forth between her accommodation and the hospital, caring for her Mother. As Siân wasn’t in her accommodation for most of the day, the Council believed that she was not living in her flat at all. She was removed from the social housing register.

Siân was made homeless.

Shelter Cymru was founded on the belief that everyone in Wales has the right to a decent, secure home. Yet each day, another 8 young people – just like Siân – become homeless.

Your donation means we can be there when we’re needed most, helping people to fight for their rights, get back on their feet and find and keep a home. Our vital support is free of charge and available to anyone in Wales who needs it.

Donate today so that we can continue to help people just like Siân to find a safe place to call home.
