As Wales approaches a new Senedd period and the change that comes with it, one thing remains clear: without sustained action, the housing emergency will continue to harm the lives of hundreds of thousands of people across the country.
Home is everything. It is the foundation upon which we build our lives, our families, and our communities. Yet across Wales, hundreds of thousands of people are living without access to a home that is safe, secure, suitable, and genuinely affordable.
With almost 95,000 households on waiting lists for a social home and more than 230,000 households relying on a private rented sector that isn’t fit for purpose, the need for change has never been more urgent.
But ending the housing emergency is not just about putting a roof over people’s heads. It is about ensuring homes meet the needs of people, and that our entire housing system truly has people at its heart.
A conference that drives change
For decades, People and Homes has brought together individuals and organisations from across Wales and beyond to identify both the root causes of the housing emergency and the solutions needed to address it.
In 2026, this collaboration is as important as ever.
This is why we are delighted to welcome back the Lloyds Bank Foundation as headline sponsor for People & Homes 2026. Thanks to their ongoing support we are able to build a conference that focuses on bringing together diverse opinions and experiences.
This year, the conference will focus on how we can better understand what people experiencing the housing emergency want from their homes and how we can work together to deliver it. Because ultimately, it is people themselves who are best placed to define what home means to them.
