Volunteering

Would you like to help out with a bucket collection at your local supermarket? Or cheer on Team Shelter Cymru runners at the Cardiff Half? We’re so grateful to our brilliant volunteers, who help to power the fight for home and make a huge difference to the lives of people in housing need across Wales. We exist to defend the right to a safe home, but we can’t do it without you. Whatever your interests and availability, we have volunteer opportunities to suit you.

Our Fundraising team organise regular bucket collections at supermarkets and shopping centres across Wales. These are really valuable for collecting donations, as well as getting out into our local communities to spread the word about our fight for home. Why not join us? We’d love to hear from you.

Do you have lived experience of homelessness? If so, our Take Notice team would really value your input. Take Notice is a project with service users at its heart, aiming to improve housing and homelessness services across Wales. We want to give people who have experienced homelessness or housing need a voice. Please get in touch if you’d be comfortable to share your experiences to help us change the system for the better.

  • Pathways Programme
Shelter Cymru’s phone, email and webchat service – Shelter Cymru Live – is vital in enabling people to fight for homes and we’re looking for people to join our cause. This programme is designed to train you to employment level while you carry out your volunteering role. You’ll gain valuable insight into our Advice team and receive training and mentorship to help you apply for future job opportunities.

  • Collection tin coordinator
We’re so grateful every time a supporter drops a penny, or a pound, or even a note into one of our collection tins. We rely on volunteers to look after these collection tins, which are an important source of fundraising income, enabling us to continue our work helping thousands of people facing homelessness in Wales every year. We’re looking to have collection tins in pubs, restaurants and shops right across Wales. This is a really flexible role, ideal to fit around family and work commitments. If you could manage just a few tins, you’d be making a huge difference.

We’re looking for collection tin coordinators in the following areas: Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd, Isle of Anglesey, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Neath Port Talbot, Newport, Pembrokeshire, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea, Vale of Glamorgan, Torfaen, Wrexham.
