Waiting for a home: An update on social housing waitlists in Wales

Understanding the demand for social homes in Wales is key to understanding the scale of ambition needed to meet it. However, the Welsh Government does not currently collect and publish data on the number of people waiting for a social home. In the absence of a publicly available data set Shelter Cymru submitted Freedom of Information requests to Local Authorities in Wales to help build a clear picture of social housing demand in Wales. Using the responses from these individual Local Authorities we have then been able to build up a national picture, a picture we present in this report.
