Armed Forces personnel and veterans in Wales can face numerous issues relating to housing, especially as they transition back into everyday life. These issues often include homelessness, unsuitable temporary accommodation, inadequate support and delays to local authority prioritisation based on deployment.

ALABARÉ

ALABARÉ is a homeless veterans charity providing safe, supported accommodation for British Armed Forces veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Located across England and Wales, these homes offer private rooms, communal spaces, and personalised support plans. Veterans receive support with mental health, employment, finances, and future housing options—empowering them to rebuild their lives and move towards independence in a stable, respectful environment. Blind Veterans UK

Blind Veterans UK provide help and support to veterans who have lost their sight. Help ranges from rehabilitation and training to practical advice, and emotional support.

Change Step Wales

Change Step Wales provide various support for veterans in Wales — including dedicated services for those in crisis, older veterans, and people with mental health and substance misuse needs. Call 0300 777 2259, email [email protected] or contact them through their website or social media channels.

Combat Stress helpline & peer support 

If you have served or are currently serving in the UK Armed Forces, you can call the Combat Stress’ 24-hour mental health helplines. Veterans and their families can call 0800 138 1619.

Help for Heroes – Band of Sisters

The Help for Heroes Band of Sisters network is open to loved ones, both male and female, who care for those who have sustained career limiting/ending injuries or illness during or attributable to service. As a member, you will have the chance to get in touch with other people who understand what it is like to care for their nearest and dearest, giving you the opportunity to support each other through the days ahead. Members of the Band of Sisters network receive the same financial and welfare support that Help for Heroes offers through the Quick Reaction Fund, but in addition have opportunities to take up offers donated to Help for Heroes by the public. Ripple Pond

The Ripple Pond is an organisation that helps those who are supporting an injured veteran or are currently serving in the British Armed Forces. Whether you are a partner, parent, sibling, adult child or chosen family, they exist to create a community where you are seen, heard and supported. Whether the injury is physical, psychological or emotional, they can support you as a family member in your own right. Membership is free and Ripple Pond don’t need to see any proof of injury. Samaritans

Samaritans works with the Ministry of Defence and other charities to support serving personnel in the Armed Forces, veterans, and their families. Call 116 123 to speak to a Samaritan.

SSAFA

The SSAFA Armed Forces charity can give support to those currently serving in the armed forces and veterans. Support includes help with debts, housing and mental health. They can also help with social care, advice and housing for the Armed Forces community, disability support and supporting serving personnel, their families and veterans. Veterans’ NHS Wales

Veterans’ NHS Wales can help support you if you have left the armed forces and are experiencing mental health difficulties. You can also find information for your local mental health services here: How to find local mental health services – NHS or by calling NHS 111 and selecting option 2.

Walking With The Wounded support those who have served with mental health, employment and wraparound care coordination programmes tailored to the unique needs of each individual. Whether mentally, socially or physically wounded,

Welsh Government

The Welsh Government has produced a National Housing Pathway for Ex-Service Personnel which contains housing advice and support for people leaving the Armed Forces.

You can also access their Package of Support which gives lots of information about services available to those leaving the armed forces, including health care and welfare benefits.
