Local housing allowance: A safety net unravelling
Local Housing Allowance is no longer fit for purpose in Wales. Its introduction was designed to provide affordable homes in the private rented sector for those on low incomes due to the significant growth within the sector at the time. Today the private rented sector is larger than ever but this safety net has unraveled, after a decade of cuts, freezes and a wider lack of political prioritisation. This peer research-led work updates the evidence base for the impact of Local Housing Allowance policy decisions for people and government in Wales.
