Help with heating costs

Heating costs can easily escalate but there might be things you can do to help keep them under control.

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

If you are worried about your gas or electricity bills during the coronavirus pandemic, speak to your energy supplier. You could get support including:

  • reduced bills or debt repayments
  • a temporary break in your bills or debt arrangements
  • a change to your bill payment plan.

If you have a pre-payment meter and you are worried about how you are going to top it up, your supplier may be able to :

  • arrange for someone else to top it up
  • add credit to your account automatically
  • send you a pre-loaded top-up card.

Advice on heating your home

Nest is the Welsh Government Warm Homes scheme. It aims to help reduce the number of households in fuel poverty and make homes warmer and more fuel-efficient.

Ring them free from a landline or mobile on 0808 808 2244 for advice on:

  • saving energy
  • money management
  • ensuring you are on the best fuel tariff
  • benefits to help you pay your heating costs.

You may also be eligible to receive free home improvements, to help make your home warmer and reduce the cost of your energy bills.

Financial help for heating costs

There are a number of Government schemes that might be able to help you with your energy costs, including the Warm Home Discount Scheme and Cold Weather Payments. Find out more about the schemes here.
